The Federalist Era
· Explain how President Washington created a functioning government through interpretation, action & custom.
· Explain the differences between strict and loose constructionist.
· Explain the differences between the first political parties.
· Explain how the Supreme Court developed the power of the judicial branch.
· Describe Presidents Adams, Jefferson, Madison and Monroe’s domestic and foreign policies.

Nationalism vs. Sectionalism
· Explain how the North, South and West were divided economically, politically and socially before the Civil War.
· Explain how the Federal Government demonstrated national power (nationalism) over the states and in foreign affairs during this time period.
· How did voting regulations change in the US from 1820 – 1860 and why?
· Why did Americans move westward?
· Explain how westward expansion impacted the economy, Mexico, Native Americans and African-Americans.
